Becky Wood appointed as CEO of NISTA
Becky Wood has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA), the government’s new flagship infrastructure delivery organisation.
NISTA was formally launched on 1 April 2025, bringing together the former Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) under one roof. The body is home to Government Project Delivery, a function of over 26,000 civil servants.
Wood, who will take up her position in June 2025, brings extensive experience in infrastructure leadership both in the UK transport sector and internationally. She is currently a partner at EY and previously served as a Commercial Advisor at the Infrastructure and Projects Authority.
During her ten-year tenure at the Department for Transport, Wood was Senior Responsible Officer for major programmes including Crossrail, Thameslink and the Intercity Express Programme. She also has international experience from infrastructure programmes in Australia and New Zealand.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones, who first announced plans for NISTA last October, said:
I am delighted that Becky is going to lead NISTA as the new CEO. She brings a wealth of experience from the public and private sectors, overseeing some of the biggest transport projects around the world in the past decade.
Her appointment is an important milestone for NISTA’s work in getting a grip on infrastructure delivery, powering growth across the country and delivering on our Plan for Change.
NISTA will support the delivery of critical national projects, including roads, railways, schools and hospitals. It aims to overcome barriers to project delivery in the UK and provide expertise on private finance and implementing the government’s 10-year infrastructure strategy.
On accepting her appointment, Wood said:
It is an honour to be appointed to a role that has so much potential to make a vital difference to the everyday lives of people across the UK, ensuring robust delivery of infrastructure and enabling growth. I am very much looking forward to joining the team in June.
