Beta

This is a new service and pages are being tested and improved.

A new design system is now available for projectdelivery.gov.uk. It covers everything from how pages look and behave to how content is structured, making it easier to create and use products that support a consistent approach to working.

A more consistent experience for you

The design system documents all the reusable building blocks used across the website. Things like alert banners, notification messages, tabs, buttons and so on.

Working with designers and developers, the website team built the design system over the past year, refining it through several iterations. Weekly updates continue to improve it.

This means pages across the site will look and behave in familiar ways, making it quicker to find what you need and easier to work through guidance, tools and resources.

A clearer framework for creating content

Different content types are also defined in the guide ‘Choose a content type for a Government Project Delivery product‘ to help teams create products that are structured, digestible and easy to use.

They follow the Government Digital Service’s service and design standards, alongside the Cabinet Office’s guidance on improving the way functional work is done across government. This makes it easier to make decisions about format, structure and design that are user-focused.

The principle is to choose a content type based on what users need to do, not what something should be called. This supports a consistent approach to how guidance, tools and resources are developed and published across government.

What consistent content achieve

Clear content types, with consistent approaches to design, make products:

  • easier to find, because structured content helps search engines and AI models find the right information for a relevant query
  • easier to navigate, because properly typed content connects logically so users can move from an overview document to detailed guidance, then to supporting tools
  • less likely to be duplicated, because teams can see what already exists and where gaps are

To get started, use the content types guide to choose the right format based on user needs, and the design system to think about how it will be structured and presented.

There’s a feedback banner of every page, if you’re signed in, so flag anything that’s unclear or missing.

Share your news, events and blogs

Anyone working in government can submit content for the site. If you have news to share, an event to promote or a blog post to publish, find out how to publish content on the Government Project Delivery website.
