Role summary

The PMO Manager defines and maintains project management standards within the organisation. This includes implementing and sharing best practices, and developing and applying project procedures, tools, and techniques to standardise methodologies and achieve efficiencies. The PMO Manager provides expert guidance, support, and insight on projects, acting as the source of all project information and metrics.

Typical role responsibilities

Stakeholder management Advises the project team on appropriate tools and techniques for managing stakeholder relationships. Provides assurance to the Project Manager on the effectiveness of stakeholder management arrangements.
Risks and issues Establishes project processes and standards for managing risks and issues. Provides assurance to the Project Manager on the effectiveness of risk and issue management arrangements.
Governance and Assurance Ensures appropriate governance is in place and arranges external reviews, such as Gateway Reviews, at key points in the project lifecycle. Monitors control effectiveness and ensures external review recommendations are implemented.
Change management Establishes and implements protocols for changing project or programme scope, and updates configuration documents as required.
Project performance and controls Establishes and operates project controls on behalf of the Project Manager, reporting progress and status to appropriate bodies. Identifies opportunities for collaboration, reuses, and shares methods and resources between projects and programmes. Ensures learning from experiences is shared across the organisation.
Guidance and support Identifies, develops, and shares best practices for project management processes, tools, templates, and benchmarks against industry standards. Provides direction and guidance to the project team.
Digital and data Uses digital tools to collect, store and analyse data to provide insights and support decision-making processes within the project management office.
