What is The Teal Book?

The Teal Book builds on the expectations of the Government Functional Standard for Project Delivery and serves as the core and definitive reference on how project delivery should be done in government.

The Teal Book provides:

  • an overview of project delivery in government and how it is governed, assured and structured
  • a description of how project delivery operates in different sectors
  • descriptions of the practices and techniques involved in directing and managing a portfolio, programme or project
  • descriptions of the activities and techniques involved in planning and controlling the work
  • descriptions of the activities and techniques involved in delivering the solution

Updates

First major version of The Teal Book published

Version 2.0 of The Teal Book replaces version 1.0 and has the same purpose, scope and intent. The main changes relate to general enhancements derived from feedback, use and changes to government policy. This version still covers the technical practices of portfolio, programme and project management, planning and control, and solution delivery in the context of the UK Government, as set by the Government Functional Standard for Project Delivery.
